I think it’s safe to assume that the majority of us have a clothing budget. Whether or not we stick to that budget is a subject for another day. I love this change of seasons from summer to fall. The weather starts to cool off, making layers an absolute necessity. However, fall weather doesn’t mean we have to go out and invest in a whole new wardrobe. Let’s talk about some ways to extend the life of the clothes you already have by adding some fall staples that transition almost any summer outfit into fall.
Let’s start with one of our favorite trends…leggings. These are our absolute favorite leggings. These are Lysse brand leggings and they’re fabulous. They’re comfortable, available in sizes Small – XL, they look great, they are NOT see-through…which is a huge plus, they feature a wide waistband that holds everything together (you know what I’m talking about) and eliminates the dreaded muffin top. If you haven’t already climbed aboard the legging train, hop on. It’s a comfy ride and you’ll never want it to end.
Add leggings to any tunic (or tank that made you wonder, “Is this a shirt or a dress?”). Unless you’re Cameron Diaz-like in stature, it’s recommended to wear leggings with a longer top, vest or jacket–some people just can’t keep their eyes off the goods. If you’ve already invested in capri leggings, don’t despair–wearing them with tall boots can keep your legs from getting so hot, especially when you throw boot cuffs into the mix. You’re welcome.
Next on the list are the very basic denim shirt, denim jacket and crochet vest…
The denim shirt is back with a vengeance. We’ve seen it dressed up with a pencil skirt and dressed down with a pair of leggings. In this picture, we also have a crochet vest that has proven to be incredibly versatile. Add a little boho to almost any outfit, including all those pretty tank tops you collected over the summer. Next, we have the timeless denim jacket. This is an obvious way to add a little warmth and a lot of style to your fall ensemble.

Some other ideas that we’re seeing a lot at market is the quilted vest and the fur (faux, of course) vest. We love how these simple pieces add so much pizazz to an outfit. The icing on the cake is always a fabulous scarf. One can never have too many scarves (or at least that’s what I keep telling myself). The amazing variety of textures, patterns, colors, and materials make it the easiest and most inexpensive way to change your look. You’ll look just like all those fabulous Pinterest girls you’ve been relentlessly pinning! (Yes, I’m talking to you.)
And just for fun, let’s look at some boots to complete our looks…
These are just a few that we have in stock. Have you noticed that fringe is HUGE this year? Yeah, so have we. Boots are a trend that we Minnesotans can definitely relate to. Low boots (or booties) are a must-have. Pair these with a relaxed boyfriend style jean cuffed a couple inches above the top of the boot. Bootcuffs or boot socks are another inexpensive way to add interest and fun to your fall outfits. They come in so many fun textures, colors, and styles, too!
These are just a few ideas for ways to stretch your dollars and boost the life of your wardrobe. We’d love to help you with more ideas for your specific needs! For inspiration, follow us on Pinterest HERE and find us @laneylusboutique on Instagram!
